Serengeti Park, the natural wonder of Tanzania
Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park is a wilderness that captivates the hearts and minds of adventurers and nature lovers. Covering an impressive 14,763 square kilometres, this iconic conservation area boasts unparalleled biodiversity, breathtaking landscapes and the impressive Great Migration.
Located in northern Tanzania, the Serengeti Park is renowned for its breathtaking savannahs, endless plains and abundant wildlife. With its diverse ecosystems, it presents a myriad of habitats ranging from open grasslands to woodlands, hills and riverine forests. This extraordinary diversity supports an unparalleled array of animal species, including over 70 large mammals and more than 500 species of birds.
From the majestic African elephants and lions to the graceful giraffes and the elusive leopards and cheetahs, the Serengeti is a paradise for animal lovers who want to witness the beauty of the wilderness. Unfortunately, there are also many tourists who are literally incapable of understanding nature, whose behaviour has often disappointed and bitterly disappointed me. People without respect who certainly bring in fresh money but who fuel the impoverishment of nature itself.
Apart from its extraordinary wildlife, the Serengeti National Park offers mesmerising landscapes that have left me breathless and where I have returned several times in my life. The iconic plains dotted with acacia trees, the sunsets that paint the sky in shades of orange and pink and the towering granite boulders (kopjes) gave me a profound sensory thrill. The park’s diverse vegetation supports a vibrant ecosystem, with rare and endemic plant species mingling with the wildlife that depends on them and vice versa. As I explored the vastness of the Serengeti, I was able to indulge in photography and walking, thanks in part to the careful choice of the local operator, whom I will always thank for the guides (Savannah Explorers: https://www.savannahexplorers.net/).
The Ndutu territory
Nestled on the southern fringes of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, the Ndutu territory stands as a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. This remarkable area offers a unique blend of diverse ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes.
The Ndutu territory is renowned for its exceptional concentration of wildlife, making it an idyllic destination for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. This region boasts vast open plains, acacia forests and seasonal salt marshes, providing a species-rich habitat. This area is also a vital part of the Great Migration Trail, with wildebeest and zebra passing through during calving season, creating a spectacle that rivals any in the Serengeti.
For me, experiencing the Serengeti and the Ndutu area was and is the perfect way to get in touch with nature in its purest and most fascinating form (not forgetting the Tarangire Park).
